One decor theme that I’m seeing more of at weddings is a less prominent role for flowers. This can be anything from replacing traditional floral centerpieces with potted herbs and succulents, to using bowls of fruits, vegetables, stacked candles or framed pictures to decorate escort tables and ceremony podiums. Some couples are just not big flower fans, and that’s okay!
I just came across this post on Style Me Pretty, about a wedding in Lake Tahoe, CA. I might be biased about this, but Lake Tahoe is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful places in the country. Most people think of it only for snow sports, but a summer day in the Sierra mountains is really unparalleled. I love what this bride did, using flowers combined with rustic plants, sprigs of rosemary and purple artichokes (swoon) for her bouquet. So unique, and surprisingly elegant looking. Plus, the various fruits (miniature pumpkins and eggplants) mixed with brightly blooming flowers placed together on the tables are such great compliments to the majestic surroundings.
So when you’re thinking about how to spice up the look of your event, whether it’s taking place in an out-of-the-way cabin in the mountains or in a swank Manhattan hot-spot, get creative and do what you like! There’s no rule that says flowers have to reign supreme at weddings. These days, unexpected twists are always a delight.
